Brendon Murley

I have been working as a PCE counsellor and therapist since 1984, for many different agencies in many different areas of practice, and have worked as a therapist and clinical supervisor in private practice since 2013. I have been teaching counselling and related skills at La Trobe University in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia since 1997. My original training was in person centred therapy, and I subsequently completed training in Emotion Focused Therapy during my studies for my Master of Counselling and Human Services degree about 20 years ago.
I first encountered WAPCEPC in 2018, when I attended the Conference in Wien, and almost immediately realised that I had “found my people”. I’ve attended every subsequent Conference, and have only grown more passionate about the organisation and what we offer to the world with each meeting. Following the 2022 Conference in København I joined the PCE World Membership Working Group to help work on the matters the then Board delegated to us, and have continued to work in this group. Since the 2024 Conference in Athina I’ve also been an active member of the PCE World Membership Engagement Committee. For the upcoming 2026 Conference in Köln I will be part of the volunteer team working to allow those who attend it online to have as rich and engaged an experience of the Conference as possible.
I am passionate about our way of working, and seek to embody the fundamental aspects of being person centred - of being authentic, empathic, and accepting of others as they are - in my work with my clients and my students, and in all of my interactions with others. It’s therefore crucial for me to state here that as an Anglo-Celtic Australian, I am grateful to be living and working on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, and I pay my respects to their elders, past and present, and to the elders of all First Nations peoples. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
It’s in this same spirit that I offer myself as a candidate for the PCE World Board. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute what I can to the advancement and continuation of the PCE tradition, gratefully acknowledge that I rely on the cumulative work and achievements of our elders and predecessors, and pay my respects to all PCE World members. My sincere thanks to you for your thoughtful engagement in this process!
