Fundamental to the work of the psychologist Carl Rogers, the Person-Centered Approach, and other forms of experiential psychotherapy is the “Encounter Group.” Encounter Groups are a special kind of group experience with no leader, few rules, and no predetermined agenda. One of the basic ideals of the Encounter Group is that members share the responsibilities and privileges of leadership within the group and each member grows to become an equal
facilitator within the group experience.
To be located in or around New York City, this 1st annual weekend-long encounter group will be leaderless and is open to mental health professional, students, academics and other interested professionals.
The size of this group is unlimited and we hope to accommodate every interested participant. Admission is free but the exact location will be determined once group size is confirmed. We may ask for donations to help cover the cost of the meeting space. Housing is self-determined and should allow for access to New York City or the surrounding areas. Housing coordination is available if needed.
