Editor's column in the 20th WAPCEPC newsletter published in June 2009
Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapies, the journal of the World Association, has recently published Issue 8.1 and Issue 8.2 is currently in press. We continue to expand the international reach of the journal with submissions from colleagues from North America, Europe, South America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan.
Currently we have a healthy publication queue as the number of submissions continues to grow as well as the enthusiastic response to several special issues. While the editors are pleased with this state of affairs because it is an index of the growing success of the journal, it can be hard for authors who may have to wait as long as a year before they see their accepted manuscripts in print. We apologize for this delay and appreciate your patience in this regard and assure you that your work is very important to us and will be published.
Preparation of the special issue on focusing oriented psychotherapy is almost complete and ready to be placed in the publication queue. Another special issue on diversity and the PCEP approach is in preparation. We are continuing to publish the key note lectures from the Norwich Conference; four of these appeared in the most recent issue. And a review of the papers that we have received and published shows that we continue to cover special topics, as well as commentaries, theoretical papers, and book reviews. The number of empirical papers has increased as well, we hope that this trend continues and encourage authors to submit empirical studies including qualitative case studies as well as those using quantitative methodologies.
Some of you will notice that the journal is a bit longer this year, with 84 pages per issue rather than the usual 80. This is due to a more favourable contract with the printer and reduction in costs that enabled us to increase the number of pages per issue. The June issue will be even longer, 96 pages, thanks to the generosity of our publisher, PCCS. The extra pages help with the publication queue. We urge our academic membership to encourage their libraries to subscribe to the EBSCO package to enhance our profile among academics and students which would do much to disseminate our ideas, increase our membership, and insure the longevity of the journal.
We are delighted to welcome Mick Cooper as a coeditor to replace Dave Mearns. We felt that it was important to maintain a balance in representation and have a representative from the UK. Mick will be continuing the strong support that we have received from the University of Strathclyde and will bring his own unique perspective coming as he does from a relational and existential background. Mick will be joining the editors for their annual meeting in London in July.
We would like to thank all the members of the Editorial Board for their continued support in reviewing papers, and recognize the contributions of our ad hoc reviewers whose time and effort is much appreciated. The efforts of the reviewers are highly valued and are vital to the continued success of the journal.
Along with the rest of the PCEP community the editors would like to express their sorrow at the loss of one of the members of the editorial board Dr. Garry Prouty. He made a special contribution to the development of the PCEP approach and his presence on the board will be missed.
